Speaking at the official function held yesterday to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, President Dr Mohamed Waheed has urged to review the national priorities for investments.

Underscoring the widespread drug abuse by the country’s youth, President Waheed emphasized the adverse effects on the health and the economy. He said, therefore, timely investment to address the issue was required.

Continuing in this regard, President expressed disappointment over the lack of discussion and concern over the issue in the political arena. He said equal importance to the drug issue was not given as to issues such as infrastructure development.

In his speech, the President stressed the need for additional resources to combat the menace of drug.

He further reiterated of the government’s commitment to further strengthen its efforts to combat drug abuse.
