President Dr Mohamed Waheed has said that his visit to Palestine had brought great honour to the country. The President made this remark while briefing the media this evening regarding his visit to Palestine.
Speaking at the conference, President underscored that his visit to Palestine was a show of support to its people. In this regard, the President noted that, except for the Jordanian King, a head of state of an Islamic country has not visited Palestine after the Arab-Israeli War of 1967. He further highlighted that a Head of State has never before visited the City of Hebron.
“My visit to Palestine is a show of support to the People of Palestine. Even though the Maldives is a small country, we are a 100 percent Muslim country and a country which has always shown support to the Palestinian cause”.
At today’s press conference President gave details of his meeting with the Palestinian President and other senior officials of Palestinian government.
He said that discussions were held on securing assistance in health and educational sectors.
The President also spoke of his meeting with the King of Jordan, Abdulla II, during his stopover visit to Jordan en route to Palestine.
In addition to questions on his visit to Palestine, the President also took questions from journalists on the political situation of the country.
