During his visit to Palestine, to officiate the 4th Islamic Conference of Bait Al Maqdis, President Dr Mohamed Waheed on Tuesday met with the President of Palestine, Dr Mahmoud Abbas.

At the meeting, the two leaders discussed bilateral ties that exist between the two countries.

Speaking at the meeting, President Waheed thanked President Abbas for the invitation and said it was a great honour for him to visit Palestine.

He also expressed confidence that his visit to Palestine would boost the close fraternal relations between the two countries.

President Abbas thanked the Maldivian government and people for the strong support to the Palestinian struggle. He also briefed President Waheed on the latest development in the region and on the peace process.
After the meeting, the two leaders held a joint press conference, where they briefed the media on the discussions held during their meeting.

At the press conference, President Waheed said he held “fruitful” talks with Abbas.

“Our people have always stood with the Palestinian people,” he said.

“Our people are looking for solutions to the difficulties facing the Palestinian people and support the idea of the two-state solution on the 1967 borders so that there will be peace in the Middle East.”
