Prime Minister of Thailand, Yingluck Shinawatra has concluded her visit to the Maldives, this afternoon. Shee was seeing off at the airport by Vice President Mohamed Waheed Deen.

Prime Minister Shinawatra arrived in the Maldives on Saturday. During her visit to the Maldives, she met with President Waheed and other state officials and discussed bilateral ties with the Maldives and Thailand.

A joint statement on the occasion of the official visit of Prime Minister Shinawatra to the Maldives was issued today.

The statement outlines key areas of discussions that were held between the two countries and some of the outcomes of those discussions.

According to the joint statement, the two leaders expressed satisfaction at the strong and growing trade relations between the two countries and agreed to double trade volume bilateral trade between the two countries by the year 2018.

Recognizing that people-to-people contacts are an important part of the relations between the two countries, the Thai side invited more Maldivian people to visit Thailand for medical treatment. As such, it was agreed that the conclusion of a visa waiver agreement in the near future would increase people-to-people contact.

The Joint Statement also highlighted the seven agreements that were signed between the two countries during the Prime Minister’s visit.

According to the statement, both leaders expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the official visit.
