Director General of South Asia Department of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Mr Juan Miranda has paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Waheed.

During the meeting held at the President’s Office this afternoon, discussions were focused on the current economic challenges facing the country. In this regard, President Waheed briefed Mr Miranda on the measures being undertaken by the government to minimise the government expenditure.

Highlighting that the largest component of government spending is on fuel, President emphasised the importance of implementing new innovative strategies to curb the expenditure.

In this regard, President underlined the renewable energy project to be commenced in the Maldives with ADB assistance.

Mr. Miranda highlighted the importance of strengthening institutional capacity of the relevant organisations to undertake developmental projects. He also reassured President Waheed of ADB’s continuous support and cooperation to the development of Maldives.
