International Labour Organization’s (ILO) Country Director, Donglin Li, has paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Waheed.

At the meeting held at the President’s Office this morning, President Waheed briefed the Country Director on the measures undertaken by the Government for the protection and promotion of labour rights, and to create a proper working environment.

The President expressed appreciation for the support and assistance received from ILO towards strengthening and maintaining legal framework on employment.

Mr. Li applauded the government of Maldives for its endeavors in promoting and protecting the rights of employees. In this regard, he noted that Maldives is the fourth country in the region to ratify the eight core conventions of the ILO.

Director Li assured President Waheed of ILO’s continuous support for the development of the Maldives and for the promotion of labour rights.
