President Dr Mohamed Waheed and First Lady Madam Ilham Hussain attended the World Travel Awards Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony held at Paradise Island Resort and Spa yesterday evening.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President praised the tourism industry leaders who have made it possible to transform Maldives into one of the world’s most famous, upmarket, and most desired destinations in travel industry. He particularly applauded the pioneers of tourism in the Maldives.
“Your contribution has made a huge difference for the lives of people in this country and tourism today is the biggest revenue source for the Maldivian people”, said the President.
World Travel Awards was established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the tourism industry. It celebrates its 20th Anniversary this year, and the Gala Ceremony in the Maldives is a first, celebrating the 40th year of Tourism promotion in the Maldives.
