Today, President Mohamed Nasheed began a visit to Italy. During the visit, the President will speak at the International Conference on Climate, Energy Environment: How to Build a New Global Deal, organized jointly by Centre for American Progress, Institute of European Democrats and Futuro Sostenible.

The President will hold talks with Italian authorities on economic, trade and investment cooperation.

He will also attend a private sector investment forum aimed for investment opportunities available in the Maldives.

Three agreements – on health, economic and education sector respectively – will be signed during the visit.

Press Secretary Mohamed Zuhair said he was confident that “the President’s visit will deepen the friendship between the two nations and expand substantial cooperation on a wide range of fields”.

All major costs associated with the President’s visits are being covered by the organisers of the climate conference.
