Director of the Amnesty International South Asian Office, Polly Prescott has paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Waheed. The meeting was held this morning at the President’s Office.
At the meeting, the President briefed the Regional Director on the government endeavour to establish peace and stability in the country.
President said that the Government attached a very high priority to improving human rights safeguards in the country. Continuing in this regard, President called upon the international communities to support the establishment of a democratic system in the Maldives, which would uphold human rights and align with the constitution.
Regional Director Prescott noted the enormous progress made by the Maldives in the fields of human rights, and freedom of assembly and speech.
