High Commissioner of Australia accredited to the Maldives, Robyn Mudie has paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Waheed. The meeting was held this morning at the President’s Office.

At the meeting, the President and the High Commissioner discussed the political status and economy of the Maldives. President Waheed informed the High Commissioner that the tourism and fisheries sectors were doing better, and that the economy was showing a significant improvement. However, the President also noted that there were a number of fiscal challenges being faced in the county. In this regard, the President briefed the High Commissioner on the steps being taken to minimise government expenditure.

President Waheed expressed his gratitude to the Australian government for the continuous support being provided, especially in the area of education. In this regard, he highlighted the Australian government’s assistance in carrying out the recently inaugurated Police training programmes.

Speaking at the meeting, High Commissioner Mudie noted that the Australia’s scholarship aid was a great way to strengthen people to people relations between the two countries.
