Vice President Dr Mohamed Waheed has this afternoon launched Wataniya Telecom Maldives’ mobile learning service. This mLearning ‘Education Anywhere’ is an initiative Wataniya undertakes in collaboration with Mobitel Sri Lanka and the University of Colombo.
mLearning is an innovative and interactive learning tool that utilizes modern technologies to provide education anywhere. It creates a virtual classroom where students can learn from anywhere with a Wataniya mobile broadband connection.
Speaking at the launching ceremony of mLearning held at Holiday Inn Hotel this afternoon, the Vice President said this service would open more higher education opportunities for many students who cannot afford or for many others who for different reasons cannot leave home for higher education.
Vice President Dr Waheed also revealed that the government was looking into the possibility of introducing similar programmes such as telemedicine in health sector and education.
mLearning initiative has been successfully implemented in Sri Lanka.
