After extensive deliberation, the cabinet in its meeting today has decided on an aministrative framework on land. The cabinet also decided to execute the framework starting from today.

The administrative framework includes how the government would use and manage the country’s lands such as islands, sandbanks and lagoons.

According to this framework, islands given for use of government ministries can be given for a third party only with the approval of the cabinet.

A register of all the lands in the Maldivian territory will be kept by the Ministry of Housing, Transport and Environment.

The details of the cabinet decisions on the administrative framework on land will be published in the government Gazette.

The cabinet also today discussed building airports in some islands.

In this regard, cabinet noted that the decision made by the government in 2007 to build 5 airports in the Maldives was a significant decision. Therefore, the cabinet decided to carry forward the work of building those 5 airports.

In addition, the cabinet decided to tender the six islands for development of airports. The six islands are Th. Thimarafushi, Sh. Funadhoo, GDh. Maavedhdhoo, GA. Raaverehaa, Dh. Kudahuvadhoo and Fuvahmulaku.
