President Mohamed Nasheed has today ratified the bill on Presidential Transition, which was passed by the People’s Majlis on 6 April 2010.
The bill has been published in the Government Gazette.
The Act specifies the processes to follow during a presidential transition.
According to the Act, if a President-elect or a Vice President-elect requires for certain expenses or services, the Director General of Transition should provide those expenses and services. Those include a suitable office space appropriately equipped with furniture, furnishings, office machines and equipment, and office supplies, salaries for office staff as well as provision of technical experts and their salaries.
The Act also states that the no funds would be extended for the provision of services and facilities under this Act in connection with any obligations incurred by the President-elect or Vice President-elect before the day following the announcement of election results or after the inauguration.
