President Mohamed Nasheed today pardoned Mr. Ibrahim Moosa Luthfee of Addu Atoll Hithadhoo Fen Muli. The pardon was issued under Law 2/2010 on Clemency and Alleviation of Penalties.
Mr. Luthfee was sentenced to life imprisonment and an additional year for disobedience to an order in 2002. While in Colombo for medical treatment in 2003, he gave the slip to his guards and travelled to Switzerland. Mr. Luthfee has been living in self-imposed exile in Switzerland as a UNHCR refugee ever since.
