In four separate meetings on Wednesday, President Mohamed Nasheed met the speaker of the Parliament of Finland Mr Sauli Niinistö, Minister of Foreign Affairs
Mr Alexander Stubb, and former President Martti Ahtisaari.

In his meeting with the Finnish Parliament Speaker, which took place the Parliament building, the President briefed on the People’s Majlis and sought inter-parliamentary cooperation. Mr Niinistö expressed interest in bridging links with the People’s Majlis.

Following the meeting, President Nasheed met with a parliamentary association of scientists and deputies, Tutkas, and discussed ways on greater bilateral cooperation could be forged.

At the Parliament building, President Mohamed Nasheed also held talks with the Finnish Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Alexander Stubb. President stressed the importance of EU’s leadership and action in tackling climate change. He also discussed the continued house-arrest of Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi. Discussions were also focused on regional and bilateral issues.

Later, President met with Nobel Peace Prize laureate and former President Martti Ahtisaari. Discussions were on President Ahtisaari’s Crisis Management Initiative, which works on the areas of peace building and conflict resolution. Crisis Management Initiative (CMI) is an independent, non-profit non-governmental think-and-do tank founded by Ahtisaari in 2000.
