Tasks • Free education scheme for degree students was lauched on 14th February 2019. Under this scheme, first degree courses are free in all Government universities in the Maldives
• Through this scheme it is estimated that about 10000 students will pursue their first degree in Maldives this year
• The government also covers a portion of university fees for those students studying their first degrees in private colleges
Benefits • Those below the age of 50 able to undertake their first degree for free.
• Equal opportunities given to all students who wish to pursue higher education while facilitating means for students to undertake higher studies.
• Increase in youth gaining higher education while paving the way for developing an educated, skilled popoulation, and increasing the country's knowledge base.

Tasks • Higher education and training loan scheme 2019 were finalized and published under which the interest rate was lowered to 3% and the payback period was extended by 25%
• Under this loan scheme eligibility was granted to SAARC countries along with Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines and China
• Under the new loan scheme opportunity to apply was reopened to 318 people that were previously nominated for the 2018 loan scheme
• Another 242 slots were opened on 21st March 2019
• In contrast to the previously published scheme the new scheme includes opportunities from diploma to PHD
Benefits • Under this scheme those receiving the highest amounts under the loan scheme will find that their repayment amount has been lowered to MVR 4000 monthly and with the extension of the repayment period the financial strain on the students will be minimized.
• Higher education opportunities extended to more students, helping to develop more educated youth.
• Increase in youth attaining higher education while paving the way for developing an educated and capable society that assists in maximizing productivity.

Tasks • High-achievers scholarship scheme has been revised and changed in to a scheme eligible for international programs/universities which includes OECD countries.

Tasks • The draft education bill that was submitted to Parliament was sent for committee discussions and includes clauses to strengthen Maldives Qualification Authority.
• As the article to strengthen MQA was submitted as an amendment to the draft education bill, it will be difficult to get this through within the 100 day pledge period.
• The current administration has drafted separate legislation to grant MQA legislative powers.
Benefits • Once legally authorised, MQA will gain better recognition internationally and within the community.
• Ensures further work on improving quality of higher education.
