President Dr Mohamed Waheed has today inaugurated a water desalination plant at the Raa Dhuvaafaru Operation Centre. The plant will be operated by the Male' Water and Sewerage Company.

Speaking at the ceremony, the President highlighted that this modern desalination plant, equipped with latest technology, was the future of water processing in the Maldives.

Speaking in this regard, the President said that more water plants would be established in other parts of the country in the future, based on the experiences of the Dhuvaafaru Water Desalination Plant.

In his speech, President Waheed remarked that water safety being guaranteed for the population of Dhuvaafaru was a joyous milestone. The President also noted that despite Maldives being a country blessed with a good amount of rainfall each year, the government has to spend a huge expense to supply drinking water to about 60 islands each year.
