Two proposals for the development of Hanimaadhoo Airport were presented to President Mohamed Nasheed today.

At two separate meetings held at the President’s Office this afternoon, two leading architects from Norway and Hong Kong presented their respective proposals and conceptual designs to the President.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the government of the Maldives and GMR Infrastructure Global Development Limited of India on 5 November 2009 to develop a trendsetting international airport in Hanimaadhoo.

The conceptual designs proposed under the aegis of the MoU are designed to preserve and enhance the natural beauty and the landscape of the island.

During the meeting, the two architects answered the questions from the government officials on the economic and structural feasibility of the projects.

Government has today decided to conduct further technical analysis of these projects proposed by GMR.
