President Dr Mohamed Waheed and First Lady Madam Ilham Hussain have this morning arrived in Kuwait on an official visit. The President and the First Lady received a very warm welcome on arrival at the Amiri Airport.
The President, on arrival, was greeted by Amir of the State of Kuwait His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, accompanied by Crown Prince of Kuwait His Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. President Waheed was also greeted by National Assembly Speaker Ali Fahad Al-Rashed, Deputy Chief of the National Guard Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Humoud Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Deputy Minister of the Amiri Diwan Affairs Sheikh Ali Jarrah Al-Sabah and senior state officials.
At the airport, President Waheed and the Kuwaiti Amir then proceeded to the Saluting Dias and the national anthems of the two countries were played. President Waheed then proceeded to inspect a guard of honour.
Official talks between the government of Maldives and the government of Kuwait will be held later this evening. Prior to that, the President will meet the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Prime Minister of Kuwait. The Amir of the State of Kuwait will also host a state banquet in honour of President Waheed this evening.
