Senior Political Affairs Officer of the United Nations Department of Political Affairs, Mr Hitoki Den has paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Waheed. The meeting was held today at the President’s Office.
At the meeting, President Waheed briefed Mr Den on the current political situation in the Maldives. He also informed of the preliminary steps being taken in preparation for this year’s presidential elections.
The President reiterated the importance given by the government to maintain peace and stability in the country. He also assured that the government will not influence the judiciary or any other independent institution.
Mr Den applauded President Waheed for his leadership techniques in restoring peace and stability following the change of power in February 2012. He further spoke of the importance of genuine political dialogue among all political parties.
