President Dr Mohamed Waheed has today met with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
At the meeting, the President expressed his appreciation for the Emir’s generous support extended to the Maldives over the years. The President applauded the Emir for his leadership in addressing critical issues facing the Islamic world today. The President also noted that under the Emir’s leadership, Qatar has emerged as one of the most advanced countries in the region, and was an important player in global politics.
Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani assured President Waheed of Qatar’s commitment to work with the Government of Maldives in promoting investment in the Maldives in various areas, including infrastructure developments and the education sector. The Emir also expressed his hopes of the Maldives making progress to become one of the most successful countries in the region.
