President Mohamed Nasheed today visited a wind turbine manufacturing facility in Vengal near Chennai, India.

During his visit to the facility operated by WinWind Power Energy Private Limited, the President held discussions its senior officials on the possibility of setting up wind power projects in the Maldives.

After the tour, the President said that with the “evolution of the new generation wind turbine technology, it was now easy to generate electricity even at low wind speeds.”

“This opens up significant opportunities to set up wind parks in newer locations,” he added.
WinWinD expressed confidence for a long-term partnership with the Maldives’ green initiatives.
The Maldives last year announced to become world’s first carbon-neutral country.

Earlier today, the President met with the Confederation of Indian Industry.

The President arrived in Chennai early Friday morning and is expected to return the country on Sunday.
