President Dr Mohamed Waheed and First Lady Madam Ilham Hussain have last evening officially reopened the Olympus cinema following its renovation.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President said that true development can only be achieved in the country through the development of our children’s creative minds. The President said that the real reason behind the tall buildings and big fishing boats in the country was not only because of talented construction workers or carpenters among us, but rather it was the result of the vision, the image, the thought and the creativity in someone’s mind.
Highlighting the history of Olympus, the President underlined that when it was built 54 years ago, it was the most enormous, the grandest, and the most magnificent building in the Maldives. He said that the building symbolizes the innovative minds of Maldivian children, and that it was the dream of the then Prime Minister, late Ibrahim Nasir to enliven arts and culture for the development of the Maldives.
In his speech, President Waheed said that with the modernization of Olympus, we were not only celebrating a place to view films. He said that it was necessary to make every effort to promote the creativity and originality of our children.
The President also expressed his gratitude to all those who contributed to the modernization, development and reopening of the Olympus cinema.
