As the multi-party unity government formed by President Dr Mohamed Waheed marks its one year anniversary today, the President’s Office has released a brochure outlining the government’s success over the year.
The brochure includes the government’s success on areas such as democracy consolidation, good governance, rule of law, safety and security, economic development, job creation, health and education. Other areas of success outlined in the brochure include, housing and infrastructure, transport system as well as prevention of narcotics.
During the past year, the unity government has strengthened diplomatic ties with friendly countries, and defended the rights of Muslims and small states, in the international arena.
The government has also embarked on a process of strengthening constitutional governance, through ensuring the independence of the Judiciary.
President Dr Mohamed Waheed took oath of office on February 7, 2012, following the resignation of President Mohamed Nasheed. After assuming office, President Waheed invited all the political parties in the country to come together to form a government of national unity under his leadership.
