President Dr Mohamed Waheed has announced the State Trading Organisations (STO), in joint venture with a foreign partner will start fuel bunkering in the Maldives. He made this announcement while addressing the people of Kulhudhuffushi Island, this evening.
He said that discussions with the foreign company are now underway, and the government would soon commence the survey of the project.
Noting the importance of facilitating job opportunities to the people of Kulhudhufushi, President Waheed said that the oil bunkering facility would create number of job opportunities in the area.
Continuing in this regard the President expressed concern over the absence of a tourist resort in the area. Noting that the deadlines given to resort owners to develop the resorts in the area had already passed, he assured the people that appropriate measures would be taken to expedite the resort development process in the area.
Underscoring the need to show solidarity on developmental efforts, President assured of government’s support in the developmental endeavours of the island.
Stating that the economic performance of the country in 2012 was better than 2011, President Waheed expressed confidence that this year’s economic performance would also improve.
