President Dr Mohamed Waheed has today met with the mayors of the two city councils and the presidents of atoll councils. The meeting was held Sunday afternoon at the President’s Office.
President Waheed said the main purpose of the meeting was to understand the main concerns of the councils and to assist the councils in addressing those concerns.
President underscored the need for stronger relations between the government and the councils as well as direct and more systematic ways for the councils to communicate with the government. He said he would make easier arrangements for the councils to meet with government authorities.
The President also informed the councils that he would submit a supplementary budget mid this year.
The representatives of the councils briefed the President on the main challenges that they face. They especially raised the budgetary issues they have.
The meeting was attended by Home Minister Dr Mohamed Jameel and Finance Minister Abdulla Jihad.
