President Dr Mohamed Waheed and First Lady Madam Ilham Hussain have hosted the Maldives’ Under 23 football team who won the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Football tournament.
At the function held at Muleeaage last evening, the President congratulated the team on its win, and assured the players that the government would make every effort to provide more opportunities for the young players.
In his remarks, the President highlighted the challenges faced by football players and said that the government was working on solving those issues. He also expressed his gratitude to the Football Association of Maldives and the football clubs of the Maldives, for their efforts in the skill development of Maldivian football players.
The Maldivian team won 2 to 1 against Pakistani team, in the final match of the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Football tournament.
