Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives Mr Nobuhito Hobo has paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Waheed. The meeting was held this afternoon at the President’s Office.
The President and the Ambassador highlighted bilateral cooperation between the two countries and discussed ways of further strengthening these relations. President Waheed expressed his gratitude for the support and assistance Maldives has continued to receive from the Japanese government.
The President briefed the Ambassador on the progress of Japan-aided developmental projects currently underway. He also highlighted the improving status of the country’s economy, especially noting the progress made in the fisheries and tourism sectors in the past year.
President Waheed assured the Ambassador that the government would ensure complete transparency in the presidential election to be held in 2013, and noted that international observers have been invited for the election.
