President Dr Mohamed Waheed has today launched the Management Plan for the Maldives Grouper Fishery. The launching ceremony was held this morning at the Nasandhura Palace Hotel.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, President Dr Mohamed Waheed said such a plan was important to ensure that the fishery is biologically sustainable.

Noting that grouper fishery was a profitable business, President said the Maldives has the capability to develop the fishery. He, therefore, called on all stakeholders to give their full support and cooperation in implementing the plan. He also said it was important that the Marine Research Centre continues its work on monitoring the changes to the fishery with the implementation of the plan. He also called on the Centre to analyse and share the information with fishermen and fish exporters.

In his speech the President also thanked everyone who had contributed to the formulation of the plan.
