President appoints committee to oversee the operation of INIA during the transition period

President Dr Mohamed Waheed has appointed a committee to oversee the operation of the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport during the transition period, following the handover of the airport to the Maldives Airports Company Ltd by GMR.

The airport was handed over to the Maldives Airports Company Ltd on 8 December 2012, following the Maldives’ government’s decision to terminate the concession agreement with India’s GMR company and Malaysia’s Airports Holding Berhad company.

The committee will oversee the operations of the airport during the transition period; negotiate with GMR; assist the Maldives Airports Company Ltd; and, brief the President on the progress.

President Waheed appointed the acting Minister of Transport and Communication, Minister of Defence and National Security Colonel (Rtd) Mohamed Nazim as the chairman of the committee. Other members appointed to the committee are:

- Minister of Economic Development Mr Ahmed Mohamed
- Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Mr Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Ghafoor
- Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Civil Aviation Authority Mr Ibrahim Faisal
- Colonel Mohamed Ziyad, Maldives National Defence Force
- Mr Ahmed Shafeeq Mohamed
