President Dr Mohamed Waheed has congratulated the Maldives’ under 23 football team who won the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Football tournament, following their arrival back to Maldives. The President and First Lady met with all the players and officials of the national football team, on arrival at the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport, with the Mahinda Rajapaksa trophy.
The President accompanied the national team from Hulhule to Male’. On arrival at the official jetty in Male’, the public extended a warm welcome to the team. A large number of people were gathered at the jetty, celebrating the team’s victory.
In the final match of the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Football tournament, the Maldives’ under 23 football team won 2 to 1 against the Pakistani team.
