In his statement on the occasion of International Anti-corruption Day, President Dr Mohamed Waheed has urged greater cooperation between all stakeholders in the fight against corruption.

Stressing that curbing corruption was an important guarantee for national development, President said the worst consequences of corruption are borne by ordinary citizens.

President stated that government gives high priority towards preventing corruption. He added that the government undertook this endeavour for the benefit of the people and the country.

President Waheed said serious anticorruption measures needed to be taken, without any exceptions, at a national level by the government, private companies and all state instructions. He said these should include measures against bribery, misappropriation of funds and property, and abuse of power.

In his statement, President Waheed noted the efforts of the Anti-corruption Commission to curb corruption in the Maldives, and expressed gratitude to the President, members and employees of the Commission for their work.

He further reassured that the government would give its full support and cooperation to the Commission in its work.
