President Dr Mohamed Waheed has sent a message of sympathy to the President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Mr Zillur Rahman, following the fire outbreak at a garment factory outside Dhaka.
President Waheed’s message to President Rahman reads as follows.

It was with deep distress that I learned about the fierce fire outbreak at a garment factory outside Dhaka, which claimed the lives of many people and injured hundreds more.
While the people of Bangladesh mourn this immense tragedy, the Government and the people of Maldives join me in extending our profound sympathy to you, the Government and the people of Bangladesh.
Please convey our heartfelt commiseration to the injured victims and the bereaved families.
