First Lady Madam Ilham Hussain inaugurated the 14th training camp for Girl Guide Patrol Leaders today. Madam Ilham is also the Chief Girl Guide. The inauguration ceremony was held this afternoon at Kuda Bandos Island.
Speaking at the ceremony, the First Lady noted that the training camp was an important and useful step towards the future of guides.
Highlighting the theme for this year’s training camp – We Care, Madam Ilham stated that this was a very apt theme for the country. Continuing in this regard, she noted the increase in social issues. She especially noted the increase in issues such as domestic violence, harassment and invasion of people’s privacy. The First Lady said such behaviour was not acceptable in any civilised society; and that helping and respecting each other was the antidote for all such social problems.
In her speech, Madam Ilham called on the participants of the camp to make maximum use of this training camp. She thanked the Ministry of Education and schools for the support in promoting Girl Guide activities.
