President Dr Mohamed Waheed today met with the Vice Chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress Ms Chen Zhili. The meeting was held this morning at the President’s Office.

At the meeting, the President and the Vice Chairwoman noted that this year marked the 40th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and China, and discussed ways to further strengthen mutual cooperation between the two countries.

The President expressed his gratitude to the Chinese government for their continuous assistance provided in all areas of development for the Maldives. The President briefed the Vice Chairwoman on the most challenging issues being faced in the islands of Maldives. He also commended China’s developmental efforts, and expressed his confidence that China would be able to achieve more economic advancement through these efforts.

Vice Chairwoman Zhili assured of the Chinese government’s commitment to tackling climate change. The Vice Chairwoman also stressed China’s role as a strong player in the global fight against climate change. She expressed her gratitude to the Maldivian government for the support provided to China in the international arena.

Vice Chairwoman Zhili further assured of China’s continuous support for the on-going projects in the Maldives under the assistance from China.
