The cabinet has today decided to generate foreign interest in the Maldives by expanding investment opportunities in association with overseas companies. The decision was made following a round of discussions on a paper presented by the Ministry of Economic Development.
At the meeting, Members of the Cabinet discussed the importance of having a definitive scheme of action with regard to attracting and handling foreign investments in the country. It was also stressed that special attention must be given to investments that focus on providing basic needs, upgrading the level of general public services, and developing the current economic and financial landscape of the Maldives.
Maakan’doodhoo and Firun’baidhoo of Shaviyani Atoll, and Maakuredhdhoo of Noonu Atoll were also selected to be leased out on a long-term basis, for development as agricultural centers.
