President Mohamed Nasheed appeared on DhiFM’s “One-to-One” show aired on Friday, which is the first time a sitting Maldivian President has taken questions from the public in a live call-in show.

The show host, Mr Masuood Hilmy, noted that hundreds of questions were received during the past few days from the public via text messages and e-mails.

Before taking in questions, the President remarked that the government wanted to promote a free media in the country adding that the government was trying to create an environment where private media can thrive.

“Not only in the current year, but also in the decade ahead we hope private media will be strengthened,” said the President.

The one-hour show, aired on every Friday, saw a range of questions from the public.

Asked what his New Year resolution was, the President responded, “My determination and goal is finding ways to fulfil government’s key electoral pledges.”

Nasheed said he was satisfied with the overall performance of the government during the past year.
