New Ambassador of Brazil accredited to the Maldives, Marcelo Vasconcelos has presented his letter of credence to President Dr Mohamed Waheed this morning.
At the ceremony held at the President’s Office, President Waheed extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Vasconcelos.
In a brief meeting with the President, Ambassador Marcelo discussed ways to further cement the bilateral ties between Brazil and the Maldives. They also spoke on decisions that were made at the UN Sustainability Summit this year, which will help pave the way for other Climate Change conferences.
During the Meeting, President Waheed briefed the Ambassador on the adversities being faced by the Maldives due to inclement weather.
President Waheed also shared with the Ambassador, news on political and economic challenges and budgetary constraints faced by the government.
At the meeting, Brazilian Ambassador Marcelo Vasconcelos said that he was pleased to be in the Maldives and looked forward to working with the Maldivian government, to identify the areas of need for the country. He further inquired into the political, economical and environmental challenges faced by the Maldives and noted the importance of strengthening trade relations between Brazil and the Maldives.
