Vice President Mohamed Waheed Deen today met with the head of the visiting European Union delegation, Mr Willy Vandenberghe. At the meeting held at the President’s Office, discussions were held regarding the steps that could be taken against the environmental and social issues being faced in Maldives.

The Vice President highlighted the importance of adapting to renewable energy, and briefed Mr Vandenberghe on the government’s social reintegration programmes planned for recovering drug addicts.

Head of EU delegation Mr Vandenberghe acknowledged the works being done by the Maldivian government to solve the drug problems in the country, and assured that the organisation would extend its assistance in the fight against drugs. In addition to this, Mr Vandenberghe noted the importance of establishing sustainable measures in protecting the environment.
