Vice President Mohamed Waheed Deen has said that the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies gives people hope, and makes their dreams come true. The Vice President made this remark while speaking at the launching of the “World Disaster Report 2012”, held at Nasandhura Palace Hotel this afternoon.
In his speech, the Vice President noted the support given by Red Cross and Red Crescent societies, to people from all parts of the world, especially in the case of displacement through war or natural disasters. He also said that their services should be considered as a remarkable achievement.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice President expressed his gratitude for the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Society’s assistance provided to the countries of this region, including the Maldives, after the Indian Ocean tsunami of 2004. He especially noted the Red Crescent Society of the Maldives’ very active role in the community, despite the difficulties and difficult challenges they continue to face, and expressed his appreciation or their work.
