President Dr Mohamed Waheed has said that the government was working on improving teaching programmes, and revising teachers’ allowances. The President made this statement while speaking at the “Teaching Excellence Award 2012” held this evening.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President expressed his confidence that the Teaching Excellence Award would further encourage and develop the standard of Maldivian teachers, and congratulated all the teachers who received the awards.
In his speech, President Waheed said that the role played by teachers in building our future generations would never be forgotten. He also underlined that it was the responsibility of the management of schools, teachers and parents, to mould school leavers inline with our religion, and provide them proper education and life skills.
The President further appealed to all the teachers to strengthen their role in shaping the social fabric of the nation. He noted that strengthening educational institutes, and creating educated youth were one of the priorities of the government. The President also highlighted the changes needed to strengthen the Maldivian school system.
