Vice President Mohamed Waheed Deen has today called on all Maldivians to hold hands and work together to build our nation. The Vice President made this appeal while delivering the inaugural address at the Fifth meeting of the SAARC Minister of Interior / Home.

The Vice President said that we must always remember that we all belong to the family of Maldivians and that parties cannot and should not separate us.

Underlining the importance of respecting each other’s beliefs, faiths, and cultures, the Vice President said that all nations will prosper and develop if we respect each other and work with a common understanding of human development, which will bring all of us together as one family.

Highlighting the role of SAARC in promoting welfare, economic growth and social progress of its member countries, the Vice President said that SAARC has “very obviously created trust among its member countries, thereby respecting each country’s sovereignty, independence, and social harmony.”

“SAARC also practices non-interference of each other’s internal affairs and territorial integrity”, said the Vice President.

Vice President Waheed Deen further expressed his hopes that the serious threats faced today in the Maldives like piracy, drug smuggling, human trafficking, terrorism and other issues of this nature would be discussed, and solutions found, at the meeting of the SAARC Minister of Interior / Home.
