President Dr Mohamed Waheed has today met with the Indian Minister of Defence, Shri A. K. Antony. The meeting was held this morning at the President’s Office.
The President highlighted the trusted and cordial relations shared between the Maldives and India, and especially noted that those relations had been strengthened over the years through cooperation in a number of important areas.
President Waheed expressed his gratitude to the Indian government for the assistance extended to the Maldives in the areas of economy, health and defence. Speaking in this regard the President conveyed his appreciation to the Indian Minister of Defence for inaugurating the military hospital in Male’, and for laying down the foundation for a Training centre.
Shri A. K. Antony expressed his gratitude to the government of Maldives for the generous hospitality extended to him and his delegation during this visit.
At the meeting, the Indian Minister of Defence underlined that Maldives and India were facing very similar impediments, and reassured that India would continue providing its assistance and support to the Maldives in all areas.
