President Dr Mohamed Waheed has called on all those in the education sector to work towards reinforcing the education system in the Maldives. The President made this appeal while speaking at the inauguration of the higher education scholarship scheme of the Ministry of Education.
Speaking at the function held at the Islamic Center this evening, the President expressed his concerns over those working in the education sector leaving their jobs. Noting that those might not be the highest paying jobs, the President emphasized that there was no greater contribution that could be made in building the country, other than serving to strengthen the education system.
Speaking in this regard, the President said that no other more important investment could be made for the country either and that the commencement of the scholarship programme would facilitate higher education opportunities for a higher number of school leavers.
Noting that the aid provided by the state was in fact quite a great amount, President Waheed advised all those pursing higher education to work determined and enthusiastic.
Four scholarship schemes were announced this evening: the Merit Aid Scheme, the Access Grant Scheme, the Workforce Scheme, and the Tertiary Student Loan Scheme.
