President Dr Mohamed Waheed reiterated that he had his sleeves rolled up to do everything possible for the growth and development of the country. The President made this remark at the opening ceremony of the Vilingili Resource Recovery and Waste Management Centre this afternoon.
In his speech, the President said that in the last seven months he had put in every effort to ensure uninterrupted public services were provided to the people, and to carry out all the planned projects. The President noted that however, some projects that were not in line with the constitution had be halted.
Noting that there was still a lot to be done for the development of Gaafu Alifu atoll, President Waheed said that means of carrying out tourism, fishing and other schemes within the atoll need to be established. Speaking in this regard, the President said that looking in to the future, there was need for a centre to facilitate shipping needs in the region, and that the government would work on instituting such a centre.
President Waheed further highlighted the reform that was needed in the areas of education and health sectors, and reassured that he would not step back in doing so. Stating that the Vilingili Youth Centre would very soon be renovated, the President revealed his hopes for newer and better facilities and services that would be made available for the people at the centre.
In his speech, the President called on the people of Vilingili to put aside their political differences and to put up a united and brotherly front in working towards the developmental goals of the island. He also noted that the inauguration of the Vilingili Resource Recovery and Waste Management Centre was the result of a lot of hard work, assistance and support from a large number of people.
