President Dr Mohamed Waheed and First Lady Madam Ilham Hussain this evening watched the parade, the route march and the items held to celebrate this year’s Independence Day.
The Maldives marks its Independence Day on 26 July.
Upon their arrival at the Galolhu Stadium, the President and the First Lady were received by Minister of Home Affairs Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed and his spouse Haulath Faheem.
At the ceremony, the President inspected a presidential salute, following which the brass band of the Maldives National Defence Force, together with the school bands, played the National Anthem.
The Armed Forces Guard and cadets from different schools then performed the route march.
The Independence Day items were performed by Aminiya School, Muhiddeen School, Centre for Higher Secondary Education, and the Maldives National Defence Force.
