By the power bestowed in the President under Article 116 of the Constitution of the Maldives, President Dr Mohamed Waheed has established the Maldivian Blood Services today. The institution will be under the administration of the Ministry of Health.
The Maldivian Blood Services was established, following advice from the cabinet, as there was a need for a separate institution to provide easier access for seekers of blood, to provide blood banking services, and to provide treatment for blood disorders.
Following the establishment of Maldivian Blood Services, the Thalassaemia and other Hemoglobinopathies Centre established under Article 6 of Act 4/2012 (Thalassaemia Control Act), will be administered by the Maldivian Blood Services.
