President Mohamed Waheed has sent a message of condolence to President Girma Woldegiorgis, on hearing about the news of passing away of Prime Minister of Ethiopia Meles Zenawi.
President Waheed’s message reads as follows:

I was deeply grieved to learn of the death of Ethiopian Prime Minister, His Excellency Mr. Meles Zenawi after a long illness in Brussels. He will no doubt be remembered as a leading politician, who rendered distinguished services to the country and in particular, his role as Prime Minister of Ethiopia.
As the government and the people of Ethiopia mourn this great national grief, the government and the people of the Maldives join me in extending our heartfelt sympathies to the family of Mr. Meles Zenawi, as well as our sincere condolences to the people and the Government of Ethiopia.
