The National Awards Technical Committee briefed the cabinet on the revised selection criteria set for conferring the Award for Special Achievement. The committee made their presentation at the cabinet working session held this morning.

Members of the committee briefed the cabinet on the specific areas for which the award is conferred.

The Award for Special Achievement is given by the President in recognition and encouragement to those who achieve distinction for the country.

At the cabinet meeting on 24 April, members of the cabinet decided to resume conferring the Award for Special Achievements, as a special award to be given by the President, and in accordance with the criteria decided by the National Awards Technical Committee. This committee was formed by the President on the 7 May 2012.

Members of the National Awards Technical Committee are, Dr Hassan Hameed, Dr Abdul Muhsin Mohamed, Dr Ahmed Anwar, Dr Ibrahim Zakariyya Moosa, and Ms Aminath Reena. Mr Hussain Amir is on the National Awards Technical Committee as representative of the National Awards Committee.
