President Dr Mohamed Waheed said today that he believes that the all harassment and violent activities of former President Mohamed Nasheed’s supporters must stop if all-party talks are to be fruitful. President Waheed initiated all-party talks following the resignation of the former President and his subsequent claim that he resigned under gun point.

Former President Nasheed’s supporters have been agitating and protesting on the streets at times with violent incidences for the past two weeks. He and his supporters have been harassing government officials for the past five months indulging in violent attacks including the burning of the Gender Minister’s Car, a police motorcycle and a newly constructed police building.

Last night in a public meeting former president Nasheed called on his former Vice President; current President Mohamed Waheed to talk to him. Less than twenty four hours later he sent his supporters to harass the President as he left the Islamic Center after Friday Prayers at noon time today.

Following this incidence President Waheed has said that all harassments of public officials and their families and other violent activities by Nasheed’s supporters must stop for talks to be fruitful and meaningful.
